At the beginning of 2017, only 18% of Chi Alpha missionaries came from a minority background. Thankfully with every new class of CMITS, Chi Alpha has been growing more and more ethnically diverse every year. The West Coast area is already making a huge difference in the area of diversity but I wanted to give you an easy breakdown of how you can continue to make a difference for kingdom diversity where you’re at.
First Steps
INFORM - Complete your annual Group Sense
Currently only half of Chi Alpha groups fill out their census each year. This really hurts the credibility of Chi Alpha nationally because we can’t ask for outside resources when we don’t know the student demographics of our campus groups. Fill out your local census each year!
ENGAGE - Join the XA Diversity Facebook Group
If you’re not already, join the XA Diversity Facebook group to get regular updates on diversity efforts across Chi Alpha Nation.
PRAY- Sign-up for the monthly Diversity Intercession Guide
Next Steps
LEARN - Participate in XA Diversity WebinarsSign up for one of these upcoming webinars covering a variety of topics related to diversity. Spring topics include responding to racism on campus and raising up minority staff in your Chi Alpha group
GIVE - Become an MMF Partner
Many of you are already investing in the next generation of CMITs through the MMF. Minority missionaries often face greater obstacles to support raising and the MMF is a direct way you can help. You can sign up to give here!
CONNECT - Meet us at Chi Alpha Conferences
Check out the XA Diversity booth and breakouts at your Winter Conferences and CMC.
Going Deeper
LEARN - Enroll in Journey to Unity & Diversity
This ongoing seminar will be available for students and staff who want to deepen their understanding of biblical diversity and unity. You can reserve your spot for Fall 2019 here.
INFORM - Show UNHEARD on your campus
The Unheard video premiered at the World Mission Summit and highlights different challenges that minorities face. This 10 minute video is great conversation starter for your local group. Request a showing on your campus.
INVEST - Become a XA Diversity Summer Intern
Do you or your students have a passion for diversity? Tell them about The Adventure summer internship in North Carolina where they will receive 30 hours of practical training, work on national diversity projects, and gain ministry experience at a historically black university in Winston-Salem. This is led by Steve and Belkis Lehmann who have almost 30 years of campus ministry experience and are paving the way for greater diversity within our movement.
Lead the Way
INVEST - Join the XA Diversity Task Force
If you are interested in joining the XA Diversity Task Force, e-mail Belkis and set up a time to talk with her more. Rad through last year’s XA Diversity Report to gain a better understanding of what XAd is doing. You can serve on a Task Force as a Driver, Investor, or Ambassador (see document above to understand the different levels of involvement. Note: If you are staff member, please ask permission from your director before committing to the Task Force
EQUIP - Become a XA Diversity Trainer
Depending on who you ask, there are many different definitions of what “diversity” means. In this eight week class, we will go deep into the biblical definition of diversity which is based in kingdom principles. This class is currently only available to those committed to being a catalyst for diversity in their area.
