Belkis Lehmann
"I'm a Cuban girl from Miami. So I'm basically I'm a walking steryotype," is how Belkis often introduces herself. Born in Colombia to Cuban parents, Belkis grew up in Miami, FL where she learned to love all things diverse.
Her spiritual journey began in the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, where she was raised. After several years of God's pursuit, she submitted her life to Christ at the age of seventeen. The next year she began her college journey at Florida Internation University, where she stared a campus ministry group as a student. Here she dipped her toe in cross-cultural ministry.
In 1991, she moved to Michigan where, now as a full-time missionary, she served at Michigan State Univerity for one year and Eastern Michigan University for 14 years. During the nine years her husband Steve directed the Great Lakes Area (2006-15), she helped the area grow in diversity, leadership, and resources. From 2017-2021 she helped lead a team that planted a ministry at a historically Black univeristy in North Carolina.
She has been serving as the National Diversity Director since 2015. She drives diversity by helping to create initiatives that equip staff and student leaders, mobilize ethnic minorities, and reach Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Through her time of service, God has graciously added to Chi Alpha, over 300 ethnic minority missionaries and eight ministries at HBCUs. Over 1000 staff have been exposed to the vision of kingdom diversity through various trainings.
She travels and speaks, teaches seminars, and provides coaching. Belkis is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God and has more than 30 years of missions experience. Her speaking topics include prayer, reading and studying God's Word, identity in Christ, holistic view of the Bible, diversity, and building community, all in the context of the Kingdom of God.
